Attilus Caviar is a brand with a London trading business and a documented German sturgeon farming and caviar production operation at Jessen. Its range combines caviar from that operation with roe sourced from partner farms, so neither its British address nor its German farm establishes the origin of every tin.

The businesses behind Attilus Caviar
The British website identifies its operator as Attilus Services Limited, company number 09340484. Companies House records the legal name as ATTILUS SERVICES LTD., an active private company incorporated in England and Wales on 4 December 2014, with its registered office at 92 York Street, London, W1H 1QX.
Ownership needs to be separated from management. The UK register names Vagharshak Barseghyan as the active person with significant control, reporting ownership of 75% or more of the shares. His notification dates from 13 September 2024. That establishes a disclosed controlling shareholder, not a corporate parent for the whole brand.
The German website's imprint names Attilus GmbH at Gewerbepark 22, Jessen, registered at Stendal under HRB 21846, and identifies Barseghyan as managing director. The British trading terms describe this German company as a sister company. These statements connect the businesses commercially but do not establish their complete ownership chain.
A German farm, not simply a London address
Independent evidence supports the existence of a real production operation. In July 2025, Landkreis Wittenberg's official bulletin reported a visit to Attilus GmbH at Jessen and described sturgeon farming, caviar production and processing of the fish's fillets.
The bulletin says Attilus GmbH was founded in Baden-Baden in 2014 and has operated its Jessen site since 2015. Attilus's own fishery page instead says Russian and Siberian sturgeon have been farmed there since 2008. The sources describe different starting points; they do not establish continuous ownership by the present company since 2008.
Attilus describes drawing groundwater from an aquifer more than 50 metres beneath the facility and filtering it before use. It also describes controlled temperature and water flow, selected female fish and feeding programmes. These are company descriptions of husbandry, not independently measured evidence of environmental performance or comparative product quality.
Does Attilus produce its own caviar or source it?
Both activities are documented, although at different levels of detail. Attilus's October 2026 article on its labels identifies Russian and Siberian sturgeon as farmed at Jessen, describes Beluga as coming mainly from Germany and also partner farms, and says Kaluga and Amur Fusion come from partner farms.
Its Kaluga product specification explicitly states China as the country of origin. Separately, several product pages carry a broader origin statement naming Germany, Bulgaria, Poland, Moldova and China. That list documents the company's declared sourcing countries, but does not identify a particular farm or allocate each country reliably to every product.
The useful distinction is between brand range and individual batch. Germany is independently supported as an Attilus production location; China is expressly declared for Kaluga. The other listed countries should not be presented as verified Attilus-owned farms. For the wider supply chain, see farmers, processors, repackers and brands.
The species behind the trade names
Royal Siberian is identified by Attilus as Acipenser baerii, the Siberian sturgeon. Royal Oscietra is identified as Acipenser gueldenstaedtii, the Russian sturgeon. Here, Royal is part of the product name, while Oscietra is a trade name mapped by this producer to a specified species, rather than a separate scientific identity.
Attilus identifies Kaluga as Huso dauricus. Its description also uses the phrase River Beluga, which should not be read as identifying Huso huso, the species CITES calls beluga. Keeping those names separate matters more than treating their shared marketing language as evidence that the products come from the same fish.
Amur Fusion is described as a Kaluga hybrid involving Acipenser schrenckii, the Amur sturgeon, and Huso dauricus.
What Attilus is known for
The best-supported description is a house combining German production with an international sourced range. Its own farm narrative centres on Russian and Siberian sturgeon, while its public range distinguishes these from Kaluga and Amur Fusion. The official Jessen report also documents processing beyond roe, including the use of sturgeon fillets.
For a connoisseur, that makes provenance more informative than a single house flavour description. Different species and different suppliers sit under the same brand.
Attilus also makes sustainability and quality claims. Its certification page describes CITES and HACCP certification, the latter concerning food safety management. These should be read as the company's statements: neither a label explanation nor a certification claim alone establishes superior flavour, fish welfare or a measured reduction in environmental impacts.
Registration and what the label can establish
Germany's Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, BfN, explains that caviar processing and repackaging businesses must be approved and registered under Regulation (EC) No 865/2006. A business selling properly labelled original containers without repacking does not need that particular registration. Registration therefore concerns specified activities, not simply possession of a brand.
Attilus's German website identifies P05 as its processing code and R09 as its repacking code. Attilus publishes an illustrative label explanation, but that is not a substitute for checking the authority's record. See how to check a caviar producer on the CITES register.
On an Attilus tin, read the country-of-origin field separately from the plant details. German official guidance distinguishes where roe was produced from where purchased caviar was repacked. Repacking in Germany does not turn Chinese-origin roe into German-origin roe; the same distinction applies to a British seller's address.
The label is a traceability record, not an independent analysis of the tin's contents. In Germany, a repacked caviar label identifies the year and facility of repacking separately from the country of origin. The fuller explanation is in country of origin versus country of repacking.
The jurisdictions should not be collapsed into one rule. BfN describes the EU system as applying to commercial caviar containers both within the EU and in external trade. In the United States, 50 CFR 23.71 sets non-reusable label requirements for import, export and re-export of sturgeon and paddlefish caviar.
US food naming is a separate question. FDA's October 1989 CPG 540.150 recommends unqualified caviar for salted sturgeon roe, other fish names in substantially matching size and prominence, and prominent declaration of artificial colour. This is agency guidance, not a CITES plant registration or an import authorisation.
Repacking in Germany does not turn Chinese-origin roe into German-origin roe; the same distinction applies to a British seller's address.
For a British-labelled tin, ask separately which legal business sold it, where its roe originated and which facility packed it. Do not use a London trading address to answer the last two questions. Any compliance assessment must also identify the destination, distinguishing Great Britain from Northern Ireland.
Questions worth asking about a particular tin
For legally farmed caviar other than beluga, request the complete primary-container label and corresponding batch specification. Ask whether the roe came from Jessen or a partner farm, and whether the named plant processed the roe initially or repacked it later. These questions follow directly from Attilus's mixed sourcing.
For Amur Fusion, ask for the male parent and female parent explicitly, rather than assuming their order from the product name. For Kaluga, ask whether the specification's Chinese origin applies to the batch concerned. Retain the lot details alongside the specification so that any later query concerns an identifiable consignment.
